Don’t be generic!
It can be tough to figure out what makes you and your business stand out. I attended a very insightful ten-minute Tips Talk by Adrian Miller, a renowned sales expert who trains a diverse clientele on how to identify that very thing. If you’re struggling with this issue, which many businesses do, I highly recommend her services.
But here’s the first clue: it starts with YOU.
A stock photo will not tell your story. It will tell the story of the grand average of everyone, which is to say no one.
I did a search on this stock photo and within five minutes turned up over 20 different companies who used it in their marketing. Listed are just a few of the business categories (and some were direct competitors).
It’s a perfectly fine image that has been flogged to death by overuse. Use stock for impersonal images — a handshake, perhaps, a serene pond, an airplane. But when it comes to you, you’re the only YOU there is.
As Dr. Seuss said “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is you-er than YOU.”
