Do you hate wires like I hate wires?

They cross, they tangle, they make everything so … messy.

Which is why the tough thing about photographing the smart home installations of our client Rex Aguirre is actually spotlighting his work — because it’s invisible. Seamless. Meaning, where the heck are the wires?

We traveled out to Long Island with our phomobile packed to the gills. (Those beautiful service vans in the photos below are his, of course;  ours looked like we’d just travelled cross-country for days and were moving in for good.)  And we ended up needing all that gear.  Not only were we going to do commercial photography, but corporate headshots, team portraits, and some personal branding photography. The house had beautiful natural lighting, but we also hauled out our lights just in case, along with a couple of different cameras and multiple lenses. So you’d think we would’ve spotted some wires, right?

Rex’s solution

“I’m not a fan of wall acne – a wall that’s littered with unsightly outlets and switches,” Rex says. He and his team at Premiere Systems Design are “smart home architects.” They provide high-end technology services for residential, commercial, and retail space in NYC, the Hamptons, and the Eastern seaboard.

Take a tour with us of their work in a Sagaponack home (link in comments). starting with under-counter lights that originally had been installed on three separate switches.

“We streamlined this with a smart lighting solution – a one button control. Then we simplified the outdoor landscape lighting from seven switches to one button.”  Rex was just getting warmed up, and you could hear it as the excitement in his voice built. This is a guy who loves his work. “And why stop there? So we set up surveillance, indoor and outdoor WiFi, added a video doorbell, programmed seven zones of climate control, designed a whole house audio system with separate zones per bedroom suite, AND upgraded the playroom with a 77” TV and 7.1 surround system.”

On top of that, they weren’t doing this beautiful work from the ground up.  They had to take into account the existing architecture, the placement of the electronics, the set dimensions of the rooms.  In other words, it was a challenging retrofit project. TRULY a smart home!

Premiere Systems Design — reviewed by people who hate wires!

Rex has always been a tech junkie, and when Michael Dell came out with a $500 computer, “we saw an opportunity with video surveillance, which expanded to whole house audio and video.”

Over time, Rex built a top-notch team with expertise in every possible area of A/V.

The reviews of Premiere Systems Design cite superb design, superior workmanship, and extraordinary customer service. Just go to his website to see more of their seamless work and to read more of their reviews.

Why does Rex go the extra mile? “I love the look on our clients’ faces when we design home entertainment experiences they never imagined.”

What else floats his boat? Fishing.  Best fish story from this dedicated angler? “We went for yellowfin tuna and this fish took me two hours and fifty minutes to reel in. He put up the fight of his life!”

Rex can make your home not just smart, but brilliant. And don’t let it stop you if you happen to live overseas or have a second home in Europe. Rex loves to travel. “The French Riviera is on my bucket list.”
